How often will your horse need treatment. This information can be found below under the heading 'Appointment Scheduling'
All other information can be found within the various pages of my website, including - not being available for your appointment
Have your horse ready/available, legs reasonably clean/dry/mud free and well-mannered before the scheduled appointment time.
It is best if you can put your horse / horses in a small enclosure well before the appointment time, 30 minutes is good as this (even if you are in attendance) this allows them to be quickly and easily caught.
I am happy to treat your horse / horses without you being in attendance. If you are not present on the day of my visit, I can return your horse / horses to their paddock (if close by) after I have finished their Farriery Treatment.
If our appointment is during feeding times, please do not feed other horses while I am working on your horse.
Clean the Workspace of manure, chairs and other obstacles
Please ensure all dogs are away during your appointment time. Dogs often jump up on the vehicle and do damage with their claws
The workplace should be a safe place for your horse and myself. No one wants to work in an unsafe work environment
The work area should be flat, not sandy or muddy and free from mature. It should be well ventilated with plenty of light, have a rail or post suitable to securely tie your horse to and be covered to allow for work to take place even during wet conditions and on hot days.
A stable/stall is not suitable due to limited space and escape options.
We ask that no dogs be allowed around the working area, while your horse may not object to dogs, having them under foot as they try to get the hoof cut off, makes for a distracted and often unsafe work environment.
Please ensure all dogs are put away before your appointment time. Dogs often jump up on the vehicle and do damage with their claws
Developing a consistent shoeing or trimming schedule benefits everyone and provides the optimum comfort and results for your horse/s.
The schedule period may be shorter if your horse has hoof or other issues that need addressing (laminitis, lameness)
This allows me to keep the hoof in as close to optimal shape and balance as possible and reduces the likelihood of it being allowed to deform or grow out of balance which in turn means that the risk of muscular or tendon injury is greatly reduced.
Work is rebooked upon completion, with the 'Date of Next Visit' for treatment written on your invoice
Days are rebooked for an area, to maximize the number of horses worked on and to minimize the amount of time spent driving throughout the day. This also means that appointments CAN NOT be moved to suit a customer's availability.
Unfortunately, this means that a new customer may have to wait for a vacancy in your area.
It is helpful for customers to note that we DO NOT work out in the Drizzle, Rain or on extremely windy days, for obvious reasons. If you would not stand outside for 1/2 an hour in the poor weather, please do not expect me to spend all day in it.
For those that do have shelter, remember that others booked for that day may not.
If, for any reason YOU postpone your appointment, I will fit you in at the next available vacancy.
A Pulled shoe will sometimes happen, especially if Corrective work has been undertaken. If we can identify ‘how’ the shoe was pulled off, it will help by allowing I to possibly make some changes to how it is shaped/applied, thereby reducing the chance of it happening again.
A pulled shoe will be attended to as soon as possible.
If for any reason (injury, vet call etc) i am unable to attend our prearranged appointment, i will contact you as soon as possible.
